Overview
Edge Tools is built to respect your privacy. The app has no backend server: we do not collect or sell personal data, and your files and the data you process are never uploaded to us or stored by us.
This policy covers both this marketing site (edgetools.io) and the Edge Tools app (app.edgetools.io).
Edge Tools is operated by the Edge Tools team. You can reach us at hello@edgetools.io.
Your files stay on your device
The tools in the app run entirely in your browser. Files you open, convert or process are handled locally on your machine and are not transmitted to any server. Most tools continue to work offline once the page has loaded.
Analytics
We use our own analytics, self-hosted on our infrastructure — no third-party analytics service receives your visit. It sets no cookies and does not fingerprint you: a random identifier is stored in your browser so that a return visit is not counted as a new one. For each page view we record the page address, the page that referred you, your browser and operating system, language, screen size, and an approximate location (country, region, city) derived from your IP address, which is not stored. No personally identifiable information is collected.
Hosting and content delivery
This site is hosted and delivered through Cloudflare (Cloudflare Pages and its global content-delivery network). To route, secure and serve pages, Cloudflare processes technical connection data, including your IP address, on our behalf. Cloudflare does not use this to track you across sites, and no cookies are set.
Local storage
This site stores two small items in your browser: your light/dark theme choice, so the site remembers it on your next visit, and the random analytics identifier described above. The app also saves your preferences and your work on your device — such as your theme, recently used tools, the text and settings you enter in each tool, and any files you keep in the built-in Drive — so they are still there when you come back. None of this leaves your device, and you can erase it all from the Preferences screen in the app.
Browser extensions (Bridge)
The optional Edge Tools Bridge extension lets tools fetch resources from the web when a site blocks cross-origin requests. It acts only on the request you initiate, forwards it from your browser, and does not send your data to us.
The extension has a single purpose: it relays cross-origin HTTP requests on behalf of the app. A few tools need to reach other websites, and browsers block those requests from a normal web page. The extension forwards them from its own background context and returns the response to the page.
It collects no data, has no analytics of its own, and transmits nothing to us. It keeps no history of the URLs you fetch or their contents, and requests only the host permissions needed to relay these requests.
Error and performance monitoring
Error and performance monitoring on the website is provided by GitLab via Sentry-compatible error tracking. When a JavaScript error occurs, diagnostic data — stack traces, browser and OS version, and the page URL at the time of the error — may be collected. No personally identifiable information is attached to these reports.
Children's privacy
Edge Tools is a general-audience set of utilities and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the tools and extension evolve. Material changes will be reflected here with a new "last updated" date. The software is provided as-is, without warranty of any kind.
